Concerning Dr. Paul Offit

I don’t know Paul Offit. I’ve never met him, never had a conversation with him, and can’t say I know what makes this man tick. I certainly don’t model myself after him, nor would I seek him out as a mentor or a teacher.

I know, from a professional perspective, that I don’t agree with most of what he says. I no longer believe in most of what he stands for. And, I don’t necessarily trust his motives or intentions, but I, in no way, wish this man harm, or want to disparage him as a person.

All I can do is see someone like him, watch the way he operates and maneuvers himself in the world, and know, deep within myself, that it’s not the way I want to be in the world. I don’t see any reason to hate him. All I see is a reason to continue to bring the truth to my personal and professional life, and not use any of my emotional energy to slander him.

If we want to see and experience the opposite of what Paul Offit brings to the table, we are much more powerful if we embody the change we want to see in the world, rather than using our energies to attack him. If there’s only one person in the boxing ring, there really isn’t a fight to be had. He thrives on our hate, venom, and reaction to him and his views, and that propels him to venture forth with more of his ideas and plans. Nothing, so far, seems to deter him, and he only feeds on the nastiness coming his way.

One cautionary comment, however: Never turn your back, or fall asleep, on the likes of what people like Paul Offit can do to your freedom, your health, or your life. You will be sorry, if you do.

If you want to put your energies to good use, get involved locally, and in your state. Write to your assembly persons, and your state senators and representatives, and let them know how you feel about the continuing onslaught of legislation that is about to take away almost every possible exemption, and every right you have, to make health choices for you and your children.

Be in touch with NVICadvocacy.org and start making more noise. From what I am seeing in my practice on a daily basis, I am not, I repeat, I am not, being histrionic or dramatic. The tides-they-are-achangin’ and I am warning you not to be caught asleep at the wheel.

Without getting involved, without standing up for your rights, and without being proactive, this man will continue to singlehandedly lead the charge to annihilate all vaccine exemptions, and all rights you may have to make health choices for your children.

If you don’t believe me, if you take the perspective, ‘not in my back yard’ (NIMBY), this will never happen to us, oh, this could never happen in the US and, instead, continue to sit back and voice your opinions about this man, and then retreat back to your lives, one day, you’ll turn around, and you won’t know what hit you.

By design, we are being made to believe that being American is about scurrying around with our families, busying ourselves with activity after activity, consuming and more consuming, success seeking after success seeking, and with media distracting us with the Kardashians and the Lohans, etc, to shield our attention from the truth, and keep us from really seeing what is going on around us. Slow down, take a look. Take a good, long, hard look, and pay closer attention, before it’s too late. Don’t believe you are helpless. Don’t just stand there, do something.

After all is said and done, and when the gauntlet comes down, you’ll say, ‘wow, how did that happen? I didn’t see that coming,’ when you will no longer have the choices you believe you should have under the Constitution. It’s not enough to have an opinion about this man, and then simply do nothing to combat what he, and his supporters are about to do in this country, with all the corporate and government backing to bring these plans to fruition.

As long as we sit silent, as long as we refrain from bombarding our legislators with letters, phone calls, and strength, he’ll walk all over us, just like any other oppressor or dictator has done throughout history.

Right now, today, in 2014, this poem is more pertinent, than it has been since the 1940’s:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.

First it was 1984. Now it’s the Hunger Games………

No more hate. No more vitriol. No more judgment about this man. What we need is mass action to stand up, be heard, and be counted. Otherwise, the rug will be pulled out from everyone, and your voices, and your rights, and your children’s rights, will be forgotten……..
